FAANG is the dream for every software engineers. Luckily I got a chance to participate in an interview at Amazon a year ago. That was a war for me :). To beat the tech interviews at FAANG, we must have exceptional DSA skills and good communication skills. Average, we may have to participate in at least 5 or 6 interviews with a mix of tech(DSA and System designing) and leadership. As a hobby, I’m participating in Codeforce contests. The CF contests were helped me to battle the two online algorithm questions. After few days that I completed the online test, I got an email for the first online interview. At the time(May 2020) COVID situation was worst, and I was working at home. Due to WFH conditions, that time was very stressful, and I applied for a few days off to prepare for the first interview. After few similar interview rounds, I missed the chance. Here I don’t want to tell you what I lost. I want to tell, what I learnt from that life change turning point.

First interview confirmation email

The most important things I learnt after the Amazon interviews can be list down as follows.

  • If we are expecting a life-changing challenge, we have to practice until we get the challenge. We don’t have time to prepare once we got the challenge.
  • Our only technical skills are not enough to work in a challenge top tech companies. We must have other secondary skills as well. https://www.amazon.jobs/en/principles
  • Final failures are not actual failures. Those failures can be the best life lessons to think different things or retry the same thing with improved knowledge/skills.
  • Sometimes, those events will help measure your skill levels.
  • These lessons will help to improve our secondary skills.
  • The most important thing is more options will enable us to think for future success.

Those interviews were motivated me to try other opportunities as well. Sometimes our karma also matters to get good opportunities. Even over skills will close the doors. I found this video after few months that I participated in interviews at Amazon. This video tells you some hints about well-performed interviews failures.

Based on my experience, I did some work to improve my self for future opportunities.

As a reader, if you found anything unclear things or grammar misused, please ignore those. I haven’t double-checked anythings.
